As just a water taxi they’re great and on time. As to catering to you as a kayak company. They’re lacking in communication and cleanliness and updated kayaks. The kayaks were dirty, filled with water, sand and rocks as he just tossed us a sponge to clean them ourselves.
They say to be there an hour before which only take 5 minutes to pay and pick an old dirty molded life vest then you’re sitting there for 55 minutes more waiting on the boat.

On another note, I didn’t see Subway that use to be on the Homer Spit so we stopped by the local grocery store that morning and every shelf was empty and had zero sandwiches to take on our trip across the bay and to Kayak all day. So take note and get food and drinks the day before and be more ready as Homer is lacking in readiness food.

Our family decided at the last minute to utilize the most beautiful day of our vacation to take a tour to see some Wildlife. I was told to call Mako Tours by another tour company who was full due to it being last minute. Make Tours was so delightful not speak with on the phone and even though they had an emergency they were able to accommodate us. Captain Curt is a biologist and was a wealth of information. He took us to see Sea otters, Harbor Seals and several species of shorebirds.
No whales or orcas but that just gives us something to look forward to seeing next time.
I highly recommend this tour company. Boat is clean and comfortable!
Alaska is an unforgettable vacation!

My family and I took a 2 hour sight seeing tour woth Mako's yesterday. The staff who coordinated the trip were wonderfully hospitable going above and beyond to find an opening last minute to meet our spur of the moment wish.

Our skipper was fantastic! Very friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to flex to make the trip exactly what we were looking for. And don't get me started about how spectacular the sights are ALL AROUND Katchemak Bay!

We visited Halibut Cove, saw Grewingk Glacier, tons of sea otters to include mommas with their pups, a secluded beach with caves, and Gull Island. Our skipper even provided information to help us with our next adventures.

Way to go Mako's! Thank you!!

The water taxi's were great and quite professional. They helped get things situated and best organized. Had a great ride to and from!
I gave it four stars because there was some miscommunication and the kayaks weren't ready for us when we got there. We were told they were all loaded, but they were not.
Two of the six had some rudder issues, but they were still able to be used. They were great and sturdy and clean.
I recommend bringing your own lifesaving vest as the ones provided were dinghy.
Staff were friendly and we had a great time. With the minor hiccups, all worked out, but our group will definitely use them again.
It was well-priced and we had an amazing time! Thank you.

Mako's water taxi has competent and amazing Captains that can get you to the coolest outdoor access on the Peninsula. Here are a few pictures of my last trip, boated over with Mako's with an awesome Captain and they worked with us, asking another Captain to come in, in order to be sure we would make it across on the day of our choice. Truly magical experience, I can't recommend them enough.

Took MWT to Glacier Spit 11am, they picked me up 3:30pm from Saddle Trailhead… same day service, very helpful (thanks Ireland!) with maps and directions. Worth the price for a day hike across Katchemak, would use again and recommend!
