I've been shopping at this store for the last 4 to 5 years and every single time I go there, they are ALL super helpful and super friendly. Highly recommend shopping here over any box store. Support local businesses!

This place is a true old school hardware store. They have or can get anything. The service is so far more advanced (knowledge) than the other big box stores in the area. This is a family owned business that cares about the customers and the community. Dollars spent here stay in the community. Plus the mascot ( see review pictures ) is simply awesome. I have never had or even have heard of anyone having a bad experience shopping here.

I have shopped at Modern Lumber for years. Excellent quality and excellent selection. I had/have the pleasure of dealing with Richard and his Son Chad. Chad has a great silly snarky attitude, which makes him fun to deal with. He can take it as well as give it which makes for a lively visit. I am always impressed with the quality of their lumber which is the best grade and sometimes less or just a little more than big box stores. You truly get what you pay for. Chad knows his stuff; we have never been disappointed. Extremely knowledgeable, willing to help, and if he doesn’t have it he will make every effort to get it for you. We are in the process of getting a new roof and some minor cedar siding repair. I needed just one piece of clapboard due to the distributor not giving me what we ordered as far as length goes. Modern was less per lineal foot than a large distributor in RI. (The reason we did not buy it all at Modern was a time issue, I should have called them first a few days earlier; that is on me.) My Husband likes going there as well. Oh and when they make a key, it works the first time every time. Thank You for being there for us in the Podunk Quiet Corner. We are very fortunate. Be well. First time shopping there this week. Kind of a hidden gem, an old feel hardware store off of Kennedy Drive on Canal. Impressed by the selection and the service was great. I just needed a pc of pine for a small project, and the guy cut it up for me and had me on my way, lickity split. I'll be shopping here from now on. I'll go with the local private owner whenever I can, especially when they're top shelf.

Staff was nice, knowledgeable. My only negative observation was that some of the metal wheelbarrows they had outside were rusted. I felt that the decision showed poor judgement. In store merchandising, one wants to always showcase the best items.

Didn't actually get to buy anything because no one had the balusters I was looking for but I fell in love with the shop cat! He's such a friendly love! When he followed me to my car, it was so tempting to let him join me back to Georgia but I know the other locals would miss him. Sweet ginger - he was awesome.

The owners son was extremely rude from the get go. He was the only working so that gives him the right to have an attitude? I had called earlier and spoke to the owner about what I was looking for. And asked him if he could have them done before I get there , he said no pay no cut. So when I get there no one gave everyone a heads up. I also asked earlier what the price was and was told a little under $4. When I went to go pay they where $8 a piece and the guy did not seem to care . He said well there already cut your paying for them. Very rude. My one and only time I’ll come here.

Great hometown lumber yard and hardware store. Good knowledgeable people. So much better then the big box stores and some products are cheaper. All lumber is straight not scraps for building rocking chairs
