I recently moved to San Diego and needed a reliable mechanic. Performance Edge Automotive was convenient, and Stormy, the owner, seemed personable—like someone who actually cared about his work. If only I had known then what I know now.

Since first coming here six months ago, I’ve been back four separate times, dumped thousands of dollars into this shop, and walked away with nothing but regret. Every visit had problems—some minor, others outright unacceptable—but like an idiot, I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. Turns out, the real problem wasn’t my car—it was trusting this shop in the first place.

The work? Sloppy, careless, and overpriced. They replaced my lower control arm but forgot the wheel alignment—an obvious, basic step. They didn’t reconnect the fender properly, left out crucial plastic connectors, and instead of fixing their mistake, Stormy suggested I crawl under my car and zip tie it myself. That’s the level of professionalism you’re dealing with here.

The most recent visit was the final straw. Before bringing my car in, I sent Stormy a diagnostic report that literally spelled out the problem: a mass airflow sensor issue. The report even suggested replacing the part. But Stormy dismissed it, told me it wasn’t the issue, and insisted I bring the car in so he could “properly diagnose” it. So I did. I left my car all day with no updates. When I finally showed up before closing, what did I find? He replaced the exact part I originally told him about. A part that takes less than a minute to swap out. One I could’ve bought myself for $40. But instead, I got a $300 bill for work I never approved of — with an extra $100 tacked on for “labor.” Oh, and the best part? The check engine light was still on. Again, this situation alone isn’t a huge deal, but time and time again this place has overpromised and under delivered.

Writing this review has made reflect on all four of my visits, I realize there was always a problem—EVERY SINGLE TIME. I just didn’t put the pieces together until after I had already wasted a fortune. That’s why I’m leaving this review. I wish I had known what I was walking into before ever stepping foot in this shop. It would’ve saved me thousands of dollars and a massive headache.

I can confidently say after my first time using Stormy that I will not use another mechanic. Usually you have to pick 2/3 - fairly priced, honest, high attention to detail/quality work. With Stormy you get all 3! He fixed my truck in a day and quickly diagnosed the engine issue. I cannot recommend him enough!

So like everybody else the Toyota stealership, I mean dealership wanted to overcharge me to install an axle and two sway bar end links on my 2015 Scion TC. I was looking around for a good honest, affordable, and reputable shop and I found a gentleman by the name of Stormy at Totally Independent Toyota Services by Performance Edge! From the first time that I spoke to him I knew he was a good dude, you know you can just tell when you meet a good solid person. I brought my Scion to him at 8am on Tuesday and he was done by 1:00 p.m.. NOW THAT RIGHT THERE IS SERVICE!! 😎 He saved me hundreds of dollars!! 😎🙏 Of course I checked the work cuz I do some mechanics here and there and everything looked and felt really good.
